Mark Douglas, CEO of MNTN, recently joined ‘The Exchange’ to discuss whether Netflix bringing advertising to its platform can help the company turn the stock around.

Netflix recently announced that they will be teaming up with Microsoft to help create an ad-supported tier to their platform. The streaming giant has been dealing with a loss of subscribers and a low stock price, and hopes that giving customers to option for a lower-cost plan will help offset some of their recent issues.

When asked why Netflix decided to team up with Microsoft, Douglas stated, “Well, I think, one: Brad Smith, the president of Microsoft is on the board of directors of Netflix… So obviously relationships matter and that’s a deep relationship.”

“I think also, Microsoft brings deep pockets. They have no competitive business with Netflix. So with the synergy on the people’s side and the lack of the conflict, which, everyone in the industry somewhat has with Netflix, That’s the starting point for a deal.”
