MNTN CEO on Former President’s Lawsuit Against Big Tech & Maximum Effort Acquisition

MNTN CEO Mark Douglas stopped by Fox Business to offer insights into a couple big stories circulating in the tech world—namely a lawsuit levied by former president Trump, and the news that MNTN acquired Maximum Effort, Ryan Reynolds’ creative agency. See the full video interview here.

Regarding the lawsuit, which contends the president’s first amendment rights were infringed upon when he was banned from social media platforms in the wake of the attack on the Capitol building, Douglas said, “The reaction to the lawsuit is similar to the reaction when Trump ran for president, which is at this point no one expects him to win.”

He went on to say that if you take a broad look at what the first amendment is meant to do, it’s meant to prevent powerful institutions from infringing on the rights of Americans. And as it stands today, social media platforms could be seen as fitting that criteria.

“Whether it wins on legal grounds remains to be seen,” said Douglas. “We’ll see as it weaves its way through the court system—but one thing to keep in mind, this is going to take some time.”

Douglas was then asked about the recent acquisition of Maximum Effort, and how it came about. “He has one of the hottest creative agencies in advertising, my company MNTN is the fastest growing company in Connected TV,” he said. “We saw an opportunity to bring media and creative together like it’s never been done before, and we have some interesting announcements we’re going to make later this year.”
