This week, MNTN CEO Mark Douglas joined the Bloomberg Intelligence podcast to discuss his predictions for media and streaming in 2025, with a focus on the growing role of sports.
When asked about the migration of sports, which some consider to be broadcast TV’s last stronghold, Douglas highlighted the shifting landscape. “You’re seeing a few things happening at the same time,” he explained. “What you just mentioned, which is Netflix getting into sports. Also, ESPN is coming fully to streaming.”
Douglas emphasized that advertisers still value large, simultaneous audiences to create big cultural moments and that streaming platforms are increasingly poised to deliver. “These networks want to accommodate that, but they’re going to start accommodating that on streaming in 2025. It’s already happening, but now you hear from Disney, you hear from Netflix—they’re really going all in on it.”
When asked if ad revenue would follow this shift, Douglas was confident that it would. “Netflix in particular has a big advantage because so many people go to Netflix as their first source,” he said. “So [Netflix] can turn something that might not have been that big into a big moment.” He pointed to events like the Tyson/Jake Paul fight as an example of how streaming platforms can amplify content for advertisers.
